Rhodes 'overseas wedding destination'

Around 15,000 couples get married overseas every year in destinations like Menorca and Rhodes.

The couples go overseas so they can plan an outdoor wedding with the certainty that the sun actually turns up.

With cheap flights and accommodation easy to arrange, it can also be cheaper to organise the overseas wedding.

Catherine Rickett and her husband-to-be, Steve, said they were put off getting married locally and then thought "why not" treat themselves to an overseas wedding after realising their local hall would cost £10,000 to hire.

Instead they booked a five star hotel in Rhodes and dragged along 19 guests, who all paid for their own flights.

The wedding party was welcomed by the Mayor, who conducted the wedding ceremony.

Overseas weddings and adventure weddings are getting more popular as they give people something else to do. They can be combined with a honeymoon, or a holiday for the guests.

They are also a great opportunity for a family to spend some time together as a big group in stress free conditions.
