It will shortly be able to boast the largest butterfly park in Europe. Due to open in Benalmadena during early 2011 ready for the influx of holidaymakers next summer the 1,500m2 complex located near to the Buddhist Stupa in Benalmadena Pueblo just a few minutes from the sea front with its bars, restaurants and famous beaches lapping the Mediterranean sea. The Butterfly complex will have an Asian design and will be home to more than 100 species of butterflies throughout the year. Plans for the butterfly park first began back in 2006.
local mayor Enrique Moya believes the new Butterfly centre will be an attraction for tourist from both Spain and abroad. The owners, who also run a butterfly farm in the Canary Islands, have invested almost one million Euro's in the park.
Running the park is very complicated as the Butterflies need a specific climate so that they can develop adequately, Butterflies live on average for two weeks.
The butterflies will fly in semi-freedom and holiday makers will be able to come into direct contact with them and see their behaviour. A great experience for all on the family holiday.
The butterfly centre will be yet another attraction to what is a great area for a family holiday. Benalmadena already boasts Tivoli world, Paloma Park, Benalmadena Marina, a Sea Life centre, Selwo, and a cable car to the hills behind the resort complete with Dressage horses and a Bird of Prey attraction.
