Spanish sunshine destinations such as
Malaga,
Mahon and Mallorca are always going to be more popular than British beaches, said one travel company.
While recent reports highlighted the fact that more people were seemingly taking holidays on the UK's beaches, Maxine Harrison, owner of a travel company, said the UK's weather could never compare to that of Spain.
Accommodation, food and car rental within the UK is also more expensive than it is in Spain.
With regular flights to Mallorca,
Malaga and
Mahon, Brits can get away from the poor weather in the UK to their preferred destination. They can change their sodden shoes for sandals.
Furthermore, she said, finding accommodation in the UK at holiday hotspots like Bournemouth was difficult unless it was booked far in advance.
She concluded: "[Spain has] sunshine, warm seas, cheap food - I do think it's going to be a while before UK beaches can compete."
