Beautiful weather and the chance to avoid the traffic jams that will be slowing UK roads to a snail's pace are a major reason behind the bank holiday exodus.
With traffic warnings on many main roads, particularly around beach destinations like Bournemouth and Newquay, Britons are simply choosing to take the more relaxing approach to their holidays.
Regular flights to Menorca mean that dodging the wind, wet and cold that is set to blight Britain has never been easier.
The first bank holiday this month offered equally poor weather and holidaymakers have learned their lesson.
Instead of getting stuck in a car in the rain, they are opting for beaches, traditional architecture and even coastal drives in convertible rental cars.
