Grey travellers 'must be clued up on health'

KefaloniaOlder travellers jetting off on holiday must equip themselves with all the information they need on health-related issues that they could encounter, a health advice group has clamed.

According to Atlas Travel Clinic, many older passengers are unaware of the broad range of issues that can affect their travels, ranging from the food and water they consumer while aboard to the dangers posed by different flora and fauna.

The clinic, based at Gatwick Airport, has stated that taking these things into account, and getting the right travel insurance, is essential for anyone heading to exotic destinations such as Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt and the Greek island of Kefalonia.

Heather Edgington, Atlas Travel Clinic's manager, said: "You have things like heat that people need to be aware of, the food they eat, the water they drink, the mosquitoes.

"There is a great range of things that people need to be aware of."

Ms Edgington noted that getting the correct shots is also vital for anyone heading to a distant foreign location, especially if they are travelling for the first time.

Vaccinations for polio and tetanus should be essential even if grey travellers "have had them in childhood", according to Ms Edgington.
