Faro helps Birmingham break February record
Figures released by the Midlands hub showed that it handled 635,052 passengers in February, including 527,799 scheduled travellers and 107,253 charter customers.
This was the highest February passenger figure ever recorded by the airport and a 9.2 per cent increase on the previous year.
Faro was one of the many holiday hotspots to prove popular with travellers from Birmingham last month, with a 127 per cent increase in passenger traffic, along with Arrecife, which saw a 79 per cent rise.
Activity on Birmingham's route to Palma de Mallorca increased by 63 per cent, while Paphos (54 per cent) also proved popular.
Destinations such as Sharm El Sheikh and Tenerife proved popular in the charter market, with traffic from Birmingham increasing by 22 per cent to Egypt and nine per cent to the Canary Islands.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham airport, described the strong figures as "great news".
