According to a recent online survey, some air fares to popular European destinations have dropped by 75%, and the hotel rates have also fallen by up to 25% making it the best time to travel this summer. Return flights to hot spots like Cannes and Nice now average £28 including all taxes compared to £112 in March 2008.
Fares to Barcelona have also dropped by about 40%, and presently the flights to Malaga cost about half of what they did in the past year. The hotel rates have also dropped considerably. British tourists can easily save 16% in France, 17% in Italy and 10% in Spain as compared to July 2008.
There are a few hotels that have not yet reduced their rates but instead they offer various value added deals like discounted dining, room upgrades or three nights stay for the price of two. Despite of the economic downturn, people have not stopped holidaying. Summer is the best time for holidays and when the air fares and hotel rates are reducing the time to book is now.
